Promise of MD Seat: Doctor cheated of Rs 81 lakh - Eklavya Overseas
Eklavya Overseas. December 15, 2019
In the latest instance of fraudulence and duping unsuspecting victims on the pretext of securing admission in top medical colleges across the country in lieu of a capitation fee, the police arrested two fraudsters, Santosh Rai and Manoj Kumar from Delhi who posed as representatives from the DGHS and cheated Fatima Rizvi, a resident of Hyderabad pretending to help her secure a PG medical seat for her daughter in a top grade medical college, Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences Bellary. The accused were found with huge amount of forged Supreme Court revenue stamps, counterfeit letterheads and fake identification paraphernalia including PAN card, Driving License and Voter Cards on their person as well in their residential premises. Police confirmed this was not the first instance they had indulged in cheating and duping, however their activities were being closely recorded by the police leading to the consequent arrest after a formal complaint lodged by the victim Fatima Rizvi.
It all started when Fatima Rizvi responded to a fake text message on her telephone issued supposedly from the Directorate General Health Sciences, allegedly professing to prospective candidates interested in pursuing a career in medicine to get in touch for securing their admission. The text message ended on a footnote signature from a certain Dr R. S Yadav prompting Rizvi to respond immediately. Thus, after biting the bait, a game of Connery and duping continued and ensued resulting in a cumulative payment to the tune of 81 lakh. However what seemed to surprise the police officials was the minute attention to detail and level of sophistication adhered to by the fraudsters to lay their plans to perfect execution. The victim never had a doubt such was the attention to authenticity in all the receipts provided to her. It was only when she went to confirm her daughter’s admission seat in her preferred stream of medicine, dermatology, that she realized that she was duped when the college authorities informed her there was no admission for her candidate.
