Medical Entrance Exam NEET once a Year

After much deliberation, the Education Ministry which had proposed to change the frequency of NEET exams from an annual to a bi-annual pattern that could be attempted by aspiring candidates electronically on an online platform, has gone back on its decision after consulting with the Health Ministry. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination, better known as NEET, upon advice from the Health Ministry has been revoked to an annual pattern and will continue to be conducted in as many languages as it previously was compatible to, in a pen and paper format, sources from the government confirmed. NEET is the entrance exam for dental and medical undergraduate courses and is expected to commence in May every year but with the surprise announcement from the Education Ministry regarding changes in its pattern, there was some cloud of doubt over its initiation.

However the Health Ministry of India keeping in mind the large number of rural candidates who aspire to crack the NEET exam have decided to forego the electronic way for attempting the entrance tests as it may inconvenience candidates from rural areas. Moreover holding the national entrance exams twice a year as initially proposed could be implying additional pressure on students, the Health Ministry observed and hence advice the Education Ministry to reconsider and revise its plans. The NEET exam forms and registration process commences in November this year and the exam is expected to commence in May 2019 as was the norm previously and it will be handwritten as it traditionally has been.
