NEET or National cum Eligibility Test is an entrance examination conducted by NTA for all the medical aspirants who are aiming to pursue medical education. NEET is for the students who are applying for undergraduate program in medical field. The number of seats offered by NEET each year varies from approx. 76,928 for MBBS and BDS courses. Under NEET entrance test, most of the government as well as private colleges are incorporated including MBBS, BDS, AYUSH courses: BHMS, BAMS, BVSc., AH, AIIMS (All India Institute for Medical Studies) and JIPMER. No separate entrance examination from 2020 for AIIMS and JIPMER.

Supreme Court of India has passed the order which says that NEET is accepted worldwide as the national medical examination that fill all seats under quota in India comprising of State quota as well. Quotas that will be allotted the seats based on their NEET score in 2020 are All India Quota Seats, State Quota Seats, Deemed Universities, State/Management/NRI Quotas and Central Quota Seats. In NEET 2020, out of total 15% seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, 27% seats will be reserved for OBC candidates and 7.5% seats will be kept reserved.

The application deadline for NEET 2020 is somewhere in the mid of December and exam is likely to be scheduled in month of May.

Eligibility for NEET 2020

Student is eligible to appear for NEET 2020 examination if he/she is fulfilling below mentioned criteria:

  1. Student must be of minimum 17 years.
  2. Student must not be more than 25 years of age from date of examination.
  3. Completion of 10+2 from a regular board.
  4. Student must be of Indian nationality.
  5. Student must have scored at least 50% in class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as main subjects.
  6. Students belonging to (SC/ST/OBC) need to score at least 40% in the same subjects.
  7. Relaxation of 5 years is permitted for the candidates belonging to scheduled tribes and other backward class.
  8. Students appearing from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, J&K get a relaxation of 15%in national quota seats.

Open School Candidates

For the betterment of the students, Medical Council of India (MCI) has made certain changes regarding eligibility for NEET and MBBS program. Some of the changes are as follows:

  1. All those candidates who have passed 12th through open school are not eligible for NEET examination.
  2. Candidates who have opted for Biotechnology as an optional subject are not eligible for NEET examination.

Significance of NEET examination for MBBS in Abroad

Students who all are aiming to pursue MBBS from Abroad, then you must be acquaint of the fact that foreign universities also have made it mandatory to appear for NEET examination in order to get admission in MBBS program. This regulation has been passed by Medical Council of India (MCI). In addition to this, MCI has set some scales for all the students targeting to study MBBS in Abroad. Some of them are as follows:

  1. Appearing in NEET examination has been made compulsory to pursue MBBS in any of the country.
  2. If for any case, candidate failed to clear NEET exam then he/she can seek admission for MBBS in abroad.
  3. To practice in India, clearing of MCI Screening test has been made compulsory after completing MBBS from Abroad.
  4. MCI Screening test is open for those candidates who all possess an MBBS degree from university that is MCI approved.
  5. If the candidate is not able to clear MCI Screening test then he/she is not eligible to practice medicine in India.

Application Process for NEET 2020

Step 1: Candidate must visit the official website of NTA

Step 2: From the various options, choose NEET test.

Step 3: Then, click on new user registration.

Step 4: Candidate must then fill out all the details.

Step 5: SGR number that is given must be used to login the application.

Step 6: Then, admit card appears which you can download.

Step 7: Candidate must then carefully review the application before submitting.

Step 8: Time to upload the photograph and signature for authentication purpose.

Step 9: Lastly, candidate need to do the payment for the application form.

NEET 2020 application procedure has begun from 2nd Dec, 2019. NEET aspirants will be able to fill in the application form till 31st Dec, 2019. NEET examination will be conducted once in a year and that too in offline mode. NEET exam will be conducted in approx. 2546 exam centers and around 155 cities across India.

For Kashmiri and Leh Candidates

  1. As an official declaration, there are 9 additional nodal centers being set up for Kashmiri and Leh candidates namely Ganderbal, Pulwama, Anantnag, Srinagar (2), Kulgam, Baramulla, Kupwara and Leh.
  2. The candidates who are not able to fill the application form for NEET 2020 online can download the application form for NEET and can fill it and submit it to nearest nodal centers.
  3. NTA has released NEET 2020 examination form in 10 different languages for the better understanding of the students. The languages are Assamese, English Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Hindi and Bengali.
  4. New union territories of India namely Kashmir and Ladakh will be out of 15% All India Quota Scheme. Students from these union territories need to fill in the application form along with the self-declaration form for securing the seats under AIQ quota. The admissions will be given on the NEET 2020 scores.
  5. Leh city has been added as the new centre in NEET 2020 application forms.
  6. Admission to AIIMS and JIPMER will be done by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on the basis of NEET marks.
