Increase in MBBS Seats

There will be an increase in the numbers of seats for medical courses in India. It will probably increase by 85,525 which further suggest that students have a lot more chance to secure a seat in Medical colleges now. Also, there will be an increase in the number of seats for medical postgraduate courses. There will be an increase by 46,558 approximately. Every year, more than 3 lakh students appear for medical entrance exams to secure an admission in the most popular medical college of India i.e.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in Delhi. But the sad part is not every student can get a seat in AIIMS. So, the students who can’t get through AIIMS then take an admission in other medical government colleges. It is said that there is a shortage of paramedical staff, nurses and doctors in our country which concludes that India needs more doctors and other medical staff. So, the Union of Health Ministry increased the number of seats in medical colleges to overcome the shortage. Since,

there would be a need for the smooth and efficient functioning of the system of healthcare. Hence, there is an important need to recruit more medical staff. Statistics showed that there was an increase in MBBS seats by 16,215 and 8,500 postgraduate seats in past three years. There was an announcement made by the finance minister to establish 24 more medical colleges in the country. The BJP has aimed to revamp the educational quality of healthcare and medical throughout the nation as a whole.

This will lead to an upgrade by the health ministry in the district hospitals which already exists. Probably there will be an increase in medical seats by 24,000 if 24 more medical colleges are to be established. In the next three years, there will be an increase in medical seats by 10,000. Also, there are 58 hospitals that will be converted into medical universities. Out of those 58 colleges, 8 colleges are ready to put into operation soon as informed by the officials.

There are 8 states included in the operation such as Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Haryana, UP, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand. There are some government medical colleges such as Lady Hardinge, PGI Chandigarh, Ram Manohar Lohia, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, PGIMS and Institute of Medical Science. There is a possibility of 1.5 lakh health care centres to be established in coming two years to make it more convenient for people.
