Many students worldwide aspire to study medicine and are keen to pursue medical education. Among such students, the specific trend is to pursue MBBS. However, for many students, this dream of pursuing MBBS gets shattered mainly because of two reasons. First is that the entrance exam for securing admission into an MBBS course is so tough that many are not even able to clear the exam, let alone securing very good marks. Secondly, in many countries including India, the fees of the entire MBBS course is exorbitant which, unfortunately, not many students can afford.
In the face of such a scenario, many students are forced to seek options for pursuing MBBS from other countries. Although a number of countries across the globe offer MBBS courses, the ones with low fee structure and relaxed eligibility criteria are the most preferred ones. Among such countries, Ukraine happens to be the best option. Pursuing MBBS from Ukraine is an alluring option for many international students partly because of the low and affordable fee structure of the medical universities and colleges over there and partly because of the lenient eligibility for MBBS in Ukraine.
Let us explore what are the eligibility criteria for international students for pursuing MBBS in Ukraine.
As far as the age criterion for determining a candidate’s eligibility for MBBS in Ukraine is concerned, an aspirant need to be above the age of 17 years and below the age of 25 years on 31st December of the year in which he or she wishes to seek admission in MBBS course.
For Indian students, the eligibility for MBBS in Ukraine includes qualifying the NEET exam and possessing a valid NEET scorecard. Although that might sound like an uphill task to some potential aspirants, however, the rest of the eligibility criteria are quite lenient and relaxed and that is a matter of respite for many candidates.
As far as qualifying an entrance exam is concerned, international students can heave a sigh of relief because none of the medical universities in Ukraine requires an international student to appear in a separate entrance exam of the university and qualify it.
An aspirant must have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the subjects in 10+2 or equivalent and he or she must have secured a minimum of 50 percent marks in these three subjects from a recognized institution. Now that is what can clearly be termed as ‘bare minimum’ because securing just 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 is not at all a big deal for any student.
In order to join an undergraduate medical course in a foreign medical institution, a candidate must possess an Eligibility Certificate issued by the Medical Council Of India (MCI), New Delhi, India. For obtaining the said Eligibility Certificate, the candidate must fulfil the criterion mentioned in the previous point i.e. the candidate must have secured a minimum of 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the Intermediate examination or equivalent. Again, this implies that getting the Eligibility Certificate is never too big an issue.
As far as the test of the skills of an aspirant in English language is concerned, IELTS and TOEFL are the benchmark examinations that students need to qualify in order to be eligible for pursuing any course in a foreign country. However, things are easy for international medical aspirants in Ukraine because no medical university or institution in Ukraine requires an aspirant to clear either of these exams.
As can clearly be seen from all the criteria that determine a candidate’s eligibility for MBBS in Ukraine mentioned above, none is too tough. The icing on the cake happens to be the affordable fee that is charged by the medical institutions in Ukraine. The starting fee per year is about 2.25 lakh INRs and the average fees turns out to be around 3.0 to 3.5 lakh INRs per annum. Quite affordable vis-a-vis the fees charged by medical institutions in India. Due to all these facts and reasons, Ukraine is the most sought-after destination for pursuing MBBS.
