Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences

Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, previously known as Subbaiah Medical College, was established to provide quality healthcare education, research and training facilities to medical professionals. The tertiary multi-specialty hospital was established under Sec.3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. The vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital was to provide affordable and highly expertise delivery of healthcare facilities. The various medical degree courses have received accreditation from the National Medical Commission or NMC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The passing candidates are awarded medical degrees and diplomas from NMC and RGUHS.

Admission Procedure of the Medical College

The college is renowned for its courses with various specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Physiotherapy, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology etc. Admission to 5 and a half years’ MBBS course inclusive of one year’s internship period is based on the previous academic records. Scholarship is provided to meritorious students based on their performance in both past academia and entrance test, under Subbaiah Trust & Foundation. You need to have minimum 50 % marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in higher secondary examination and NEET Qualified to seek admission in the undergraduate medical courses. The PUC examination should be recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The minimum age of a student has to be 17 years on December 31, in the MBBS admission year. Total number of available seats is 150.38 seats out of 150 are for residents of Karnataka, who have cleared Karnataka Common Entrance Test. The remaining 112 seats are allotted to the candidates who have cleared Karnataka Religious & Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges Association entrance test.

Intensive exposure of students in any undergraduate and postgraduate study is emphasized upon. Rigorous practice, under the guidelines of NMC and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, is conducted through edifying lectures, CPR training, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brain-storming sessions, problem solving skills training, are all part of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. Research on contemporary medicine and surgical procedures is given due significance.

The college-affiliated hospital is equipped with super-specialized, Hi-tech facilities in laboratories and 12 operation theatres for catering to diverse investigations in Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Pharmacology, Orthopedics, Radio Diagnosis, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Anaesthesia etc. The college hospital has one of the best Radiology centers in the state. Mammography, High-Resolution Color Doppler, Spiral CT Scan, MRI, latest Ultrasound and X-ray machines dot the various departments in the hospital.
