Katihar Medical College

Katihar Medical College is located in Katihar, in Bihar and was established in 1987 by the Al-Karim Educational Trust. The college is affiliated by Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University and is affiliated by the National Medical Commission. The college provides a five and half year’s undergraduate program in medical sciences. Students are awarded MBBS after completion of the internship and examination. The college intends to impart education in medical sciences to Muslim community. As a part of the curriculum, students have to complete one year internship in the last year of the course. There are 100 seats for MBBS courses. The academic year of these courses is divided into two semesters, and each semester consists of 120 days with 8 hours of classes.

This college and the hospital attached to it rank among the first ten medical colleges in the Indian state of Bihar. A 550 bedded hospital is attached to this college. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency facility and causality services to patients. A blood bank is attached with the hospital. The operation theatres are well equipped to handle different types of surgeries. There are also radiological imaging and other facilities in the hospital. Laboratories are attached to different departments of the hospital. There is a post mortem block in the hospital.

Process of Admission

While admission, majority of the seats are reserved for Muslim community, and another 15 percent of seats is for NRIs. And the rest is for students from general category. To enroll to these MBBS course, students need to pass their senior secondary examination or equivalents from a recognized board. You need to have minimum 50 % marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in higher secondary examination and NEET Qualified to seek admission in the undergraduate medical courses. It is the performance and merit of students that determine their admission. Students need to pay Rs. 12,50,000 per annum.

The central library attached to the college runs in two shifts and has a wide collection of books, resources and national and international journals. There are also audio and visual aids, to enhance the learning experience of students. Students are also permitted to avail different e-journals from the library. The college is focused on imparting education to boys, and it provides accommodation facilities to them. Students are provided with free medical facilities and sports facilities in the campus.
