Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College was established in 1963, in Belgaum, Karnataka to provide quality healthcare education, research and training facilities to medical professionals. The vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital was to provide affordable and highly expertise delivery of healthcare facilities. The college forms a Constituent Unit of the Deemed KLE University. The various medical degree and diploma courses are recognized by the National Medical Commission or NMC, World Health Organization or WHO and Malaysian Medical Council. The various national and international affiliations of the medical college provide students a global exposure and platform for practicing medicine. JNMC was ranked among the top 20 medical colleges in India in 2007.

Admission Procedure of the Medical College

The college is renowned for its courses with various specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Radio Diagnosis, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Pathology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Obstetrics, and Urologyetc. Admission to 5 and a half years’ MBBS course inclusive of one year’s internship period is based on the previous academic records. Scholarship is provided to meritorious students based on their performance in both past academics. You need to have minimum 50 % marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in higher secondary examination and NEET Qualified to seek admission in the undergraduate medical courses. The minimum age of a student has to be 17 years on December 31, in the MBBS admission year.

Intensive and extensive exposures of students in any undergraduate and postgraduate study are emphasized upon. Rigorous practice, under the guidelines of NMC, is conducted through edifying lectures, CPR training modules, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brain-storming sessions, problem solving skills training, are all part of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. Research on contemporary medicine and surgical procedures is given due significance. JNMC has collaborated with various National and International bodies like ICMR, WHO, University of Illinois, University of Missouri Kansas City for imparting world-class training and research.

JNMC has a 1000-bedded charitable hospital and 1250-bedded KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre.
