Universal College Of Medical Sciences Universal College of Medical Sciences (UCMS)was established in 1998, in Bhairahawa, Nepal. The college provides comprehensive healthcare education, research and training facilities to medical professionals. The vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital was to provide affordable and professional delivery of healthcare facilities. The institution is affiliated to Tribhuvan University (TU). The various medical degree and diploma courses are recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Medical Council of India (MCI), Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) etc.

Admission Procedure of the Medical College

The college is renowned for its courses with various specializations in Anatomy, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Biochemistry, ENT, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, and Paediatrics etc. Admission to 5 and a half years’ MBBS course inclusive of one year’s internship period is based on the previous academic records. The selection is based on merit in the qualifying examinations like HSC, 10+2, I.Sc “A” Level etc., with minimum aggregate of 50% score in Physics, Biology, Chemistry and English. The minimum age for an undergraduate medical student has to be 17, on the year of admission.

Academic and Practical Training Methods

Rigorous practice, under the guidelines of NMC, is conducted through edifying lectures, diverse training modules, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brain-storming sessions, problem solving skills training, are all part of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars, national and international workshops are conducted regularly. Research on contemporary medicine and surgical procedures is given due significance. Community exposure forms an integral part of the curriculum.

The college-affiliated950-bedded, multi-specialty teaching hospital and research centre are equipped with super-specialized, digitalized, multi-department laboratories and11 operation theatres for catering to diverse investigations in Microbiology, Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, Radiology etc. The digitalized laboratories are well-equipped for conducting various investigations using Radiography, CT scan, 500 ma X-ray Machine, NBP, MRI, Ultra-sonography, ECG, Automatic Analyzer etc. The campus boasts of, lecture halls, well-equipped museums, Central Library, demonstration room, dissection hall, modernized computer labs, Internet connectivity, seminar hall, sports complex, playground, and separate hostel for girls and boys, mess facilities, cultural activity centre, ATM, canteen, telecommunication and transportation services, and much more, for dissemination of world-class educational services to students.

Faculty and Fees Structure

The faculty consists of distinguished medical practitioners who are regularly involved with various intensive and extensive, community-oriented, participatory and clinical research projects. Most of the professors are renowned specialists in their own respective Pre-Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical disciplines. Faculty regularly participates in CMEs, various national and international conferences etc. The department of medicine provides numerous research papers and journals in various medical publications, nationally and internationally. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. 3,50,000 approximately, which is subject to change based on the decisions of the college administration and TU.
