Rostov State Medical University is located in the town of Rostov and is one of the oldest medical schools in the country. The university first came into being in the year 1915. In 1994, the university was renamed to the present one. The town of Rostov is one of the oldest one in the country and is also known as Rostov Veliky. It is of tourist importance and is one of the prominentcenters of Golden Ring. The university is recognized by the World Health Organization, and it appears in the list of universities in World Federation of Medical Education.
It collaborates with the UnitedStates Agency for International Development and the British Council. The courses are also recognized by the Medical Council of India. After qualifying this degree students are eligible to appear for the licensure examination and screening test conducted by different countries of the world. The University has different faculties under it like that of dentistry, general medicine, pharmacy, postgraduate studies, and medico-prophylactics and armed forced medicine. The undergraduate course is offered in both English and Russian language. The duration of the course in English is of six years, and that of Russian takes another year extra.
But, the postgraduate courses are offered only in English, and it is of duration two years. International students have the option of pursuing the course, both in English and Russian. If international students want to pursue the course in Russian, then they have to go through a preparatory course of one year.Only after completing the course, students are permitted to seek admissionto the undergraduate course. The university offers MD after completion of the undergraduate course, which is equivalent to the MBBS course in India.
The medical education in Russia is known for the affordable fee structure. The tuition fee for the preparatory course is about US $ 3200 per annum, which of undergraduate course is US $ 3500 per year. For postgraduate courses, the tuition fee is US $ 4500.Students also need to take care of their hostel charges which are about US $ 200 per annum. It is mandatory for students to pay their medical insurance at the beginning of the year. Indian students can pursue part time job while studying in the country. There are accommodation facilities for students. Students can stay in sharing basis or single in the rooms. They can also avail different recreational and sport facilities in the campus.
