Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy is located in Nizhny Novgorod and the medical faculty started functioning in 1920.The city was also known as Gorky, after the name of Maxim Gorky. It is also known for economic, cultural and transportation importance in the region. It appears among the first ten medical colleges in the country. In 1992, the institute started the intake of international students and since then students from overseas have flocked to the university to pursue medical courses in the institute. The institute is recognized by the World Health Organization and the medical councils of different countries.
The Medical Council of India also recognizes the degree awarded by the college, and also permits them to appear for the screening test conducted the council in India.The institute has seven faculties of medicine, paediatrics, pharmacy, preventive medicine, dentistry, nursing education and pre-medical courses.There are seventy departments that are specialized in different stream of medical sciences. Both undergraduate and postgraduate courses are catered to students. The college also collaborates with different prestigious medical institutes in USA and UK. International students can pursue these courses both in English and in the Russian language.
Duration of the undergraduate course is of six years while that of dentistry and pharmacy is of five years.Academic year starts in the first day of September, and the year is divided into two semesters. One of the major attractions of studying medical courses in Russia is the affordable fee structure and competitive cost of living and other expenses. Total expenses incurred by students are the tuition fees, hostel charges, expenses for medical insurance. The overall charges range in between US $ 4400 to US $5500 per year. The fees for hostel accommodation are US $450 per year. Two to three students are accommodated are in one room. For medical insurance, students need to pay US $ 160 per year.
The medical institute has different accommodation facilities for students. These hostels are equipped with facilities that guarantee a comfortable living to students. Students can also avail the library of the college to facilitate the process of learning. There separate sports halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools that help students to fulfil their sports need. The cafeterias and canteens attached to the hostels also provide Indian food for the convenience of students.They can free internet services, when in the campus.Students’have the provision of working part time in the country as it is permitted by the government of the country.
